If you sign up at Stake through this site's referral links, this site may earn a commission. What this site writes does not change with that relationship.

Short answer
What a referral code is, and why this site shows one
Stake runs an affiliate scheme. A partner shares a link or a code, a new player signs up with it, and that account is recorded under the partner. This site is one such partner. If you register with this site's code, this site may earn a commission, and that should be said first, because it means this site has a financial interest in what you do.
For that reason this page keeps to one rule: it repeats what Stake's official pages say and adds nothing of its own. Where Stake has not written something down, this page says Stake has not written it. It will not tell you what you are certain to receive for entering a code, and it does not call the code an official one, because Stake does not describe it that way.
It also helps to remember what a code is not. It is not a discount voucher. It decides which partner your account is recorded under, and whether you can claim the welcome offer.
Where the code goes, and when to enter it
The sign-up form has a field labelled "Code (Optional)". Stake's help centre says a code typed there overrides an affiliate link, because a referral code takes priority over a link. So if you clicked one person's link and then typed a different code into the field, the code in the field is the one that counts.
If you would rather be attributed through a link, Stake asks for the link to be clicked before registering, and for you to sign up directly from the page it opens. Opening Stake's homepage yourself, registering, and only then clicking a link does not work.
There is also a time limit that people often miss. If you leave the field empty at sign-up, you can still enter a code later, but only within a limited period after the account is opened, and only on the offers page under your account. Stake states the length of that period, and the figure is in the card below rather than repeated here. Once it has passed, the code can no longer be entered. Stake adds that a player who did sign up with a code can contact live chat support for help.
The last card is this site's own code, placed here so you can compare it with the rules above. One more reminder: an account is associated with only one affiliate, so decide before you enter anything.

When you are ready, go to Stake
If you have read the rules above and you meet Stake's conditions for registering, the button below takes you to Stake. The terms on age, location and one account per player are set out on the sign-up page of this site, and it is worth reading those first.
This site does not judge whether the law where you live allows you to use Stake, and it cannot make that judgement for you. Stake's terms put responsibility for local law on the user, so please check it yourself.
What the welcome offer actually gives
In Stake's description, the welcome offer gives instant access to the rakeback bonus that is normally unlocked only on reaching the first level of the VIP Club. So what it gives is not a cash payment. It is rakeback: on every game you play, Stake returns a stated share of the house edge to you. That share is in the card below.
What if you enter no code? Stake says that without an affiliate code, rakeback begins once your total wagered reaches the amount needed for the first VIP level, and from then on every wager earns rakeback. That amount is in the card as well. Put simply, a code lets you start receiving rakeback without first reaching that point.
To collect rakeback, Stake says to open the VIP page and select the rakeback tab. This site has not opened an account, so what the screen actually looks like is for you to see once you have one.

A deposit bonus requirement is a different matter
Many people mix up the welcome offer and a deposit bonus, but they are two different things. The welcome offer is rakeback. A deposit bonus comes with a wagering requirement, which has to be met before the bonus is complete. Stake says the requirement is set by a multiplier, and that the multiplier varies with your affiliation and with the type of bonus, so the one you receive may not match the one someone else received.
Games also count toward the requirement in different ways. Stake's own example is sports betting, where only part of each wager counts, so a game with a lower house edge completes the requirement more slowly. The exact method and figures are in Stake's wording in the cards below.
The point that needs the most care is this: while a deposit bonus requirement is still unmet, Stake says a withdrawal request is automatically denied until the wagering criteria are fulfilled. Before taking any deposit bonus, ask yourself whether you are willing to be held by that condition. The separate rule that a deposit must be wagered before it can be withdrawn is explained on the withdrawal and deposit pages.
In Stake's own words
Deposit bonus requirement
The deposit bonus requirement is determined by a multiplier based on your deposit amount and the bonus you received. This multiplier varies depending on your affiliation and the bonus type.

How different games count toward the requirement
Sportsbook is calculated at a 3% house edge and contributes $0.75 toward the requirement for every $1 wagered. This means that if you play a game with a house edge of 1%, it will complete at a 4x slower rate.

Withdrawing with an active deposit bonus requirement
Your withdrawal request will be automatically denied. You must fulfil the wagering criteria first.

How long a weekly bonus link lasts
Besides the welcome offer at sign-up, Stake also posts weekly bonus links. Stake says such a link lasts for a fixed period counted from the moment it is posted, and after that it no longer works. The length of the period is in the card. If you see someone sharing a weekly bonus link that was posted long ago, ask yourself whether it has already expired before you click it.
This site neither collects nor reposts links of this kind. This page only explains the expiry rule that Stake has published.
In Stake's own words
How long weekly bonus links last
From the moment they're posted, weekly bonus links last for 3 months.

A last reminder
Whether or not you receive an offer, gambling can lose you money, and money that is lost does not come back. This site promises no outcome and does not suggest playing more in order to use an offer. Stake describes two tools of its own, shown below: a loss limit and self-exclusion.
If you feel you are losing control, contact a gambling support service in the country where you live. English-speaking readers live in many countries, and this site has not verified a helpline that serves all of them, so it lists none here.
In Stake's own words
Loss limits
Loss limits enable users to set boundaries on the amount of money they can potentially lose within a specified time frame. … However, any increase in the loss limit is subject to a 24-hour cooling-off period.
Source help.stake.comQuoted verbatim from Stake's English page
Self-exclusion
The indefinite exclusion has a minimum period of 6 months from the application date.
